Description
Kicking mule. High-speed photographic sequences of a kicking mule (Equus). These images, by the British-American photographer Eadweard James Muybridge (1830-1904), were published in the book Animal Locomotion (1887). The action runs from left to right in two sequences, one the top two rows, the other the bottom two rows. Muybridge pioneered the use of high-speed photography and used novel techniques to analyse animal and human locomotion. He began his work on high-speed photography when he was commissioned to discover whether galloping horses sometimes have all of their feet off the ground. He proved they did.
